Adults and young adults, 18 & up, can earn prizes by reading or listening to books, magazines, newspapers, comics, study guides, etc. Participants can also earn additional prizes by completing activities.
What is the Adult Summer Reading Challenge?
The Read Beyond the Beaten Path Adult Summer Reading Challenge is an eight week program where adults and young adults are encouraged to read and earn prizes. To register for the Adult Summer Reading Program, participants must:
- Must be age 18 & older
- Register online or call the Reference Desk at (626) 307-1368
How do I sign up and log my reading and activities for the Adult Summer Reading Program?
- Visit Beanstack or download the Beanstack app.
How do I earn prizes?
- Read a total of 12 hours to earn a free book
- Complete five activities for a chance to win a pair of hiking poles
Do I have to read just books or can I read other things?
Participants are welcome to read, or listen, to any books. eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, newspapers, magazines, online articles, etc!
Can I checkout books from the library?
Yes! The library is now open and also offers Contactless Checkout.
Where do I pick up my prizes?
Participants can pick up their prizes by calling the Reference Desk at (626) 307-1398.

June/July Programs
Get Fit While You Sit
Friday, July 8 and July 22, 10:00 a.m., Langley Senior Center
Join staff as we practice poses to learn how to maintain flexibility, improve posture, and exercise the brain with simple exercises. Staff will conduct these sessions in English and Mandarin. Registration is required.
Through The Lens: An Asian American Experience in 2021 Photo Exhibition

Exhibition Reception

Sponsored by East West Bank, Through the Lens: An Asian American Experience in 2021 is a project co-organized by the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles (PPAGLA) and the Chinese Culture Development Center (CCDC). Patrons are invited to view photographs from ten award-winning photojournalists documenting fifteen anti-AAPI discrimination rallies and commemorative events throughout the Greater Los Angeles area displayed on the first floor of the library. Patrons are also invited to a reception with participating photojournalists talking about their works and experience. This event is presented in partnership with the Library and Greater Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce.
D&D in the Library for Adults
July 9 & 16 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room
Novices and veterans are invited to join the Library’s new Dungeon Master for a thrilling afternoon of Dungeons and Dragons! Whether you are a spell casting wizard, a smiting paladin, or thieving rogue, adults will learn the basics of the greatest role-playing game ever made. Refreshments will be provided.
Mid-Morning Matinee
July 19 at 11 a.m. in the Friends Room
A story of love, laughter and loss through the eyes of a young boy amid the social tumult of the late 1960s at the height of the violent conflicts between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland, this semi-autobiographical film was written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, who won the Oscar for Original Screenplay. This film is rated PG-13 and runs 97 minutes.
Raffia Baskets Grab and Go Craft Kit
July 19-22, with crafting session July 22 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room
Adults are invited to weave baskets with library staff using raffia ribbon or yarn. Kits will be available for pick-up through Contactless Checkout starting Tuesday, July 19. To request a kit, call Adult Services. Also, join staff in the Library’s Friends Room on Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. to craft and chat.
Child and Teen Mental Health Workshop
July 23 at 2 p.m. in the Friends Room
Parents and mentors are invited to attend a workshop about child and teen mental health management. Tis presentation will cover childhood disorders, disorders diagnosed after childhood, cyber considerations, mental health during/post-COVID and adverse childhood experiences. Through dialogue, Dr. Michi Fu will discuss various treatments and provide helpful tips. This presentation will be conducted in English and Chinese and sponsored by Garfield Health Center
