Green Building Tips & Resources
About Green Building
Green Building is the design and construction practices that take sustainability into consideration. Sustainability means meeting our needs in the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Green buildings are designed in an integrated manner to be responsive to the local conditions, and to use environmental resources wisely. Specifically, green buildings are designed, built and operated with the following objectives:
- Conservation of energy and water
- Use of materials in a resource efficient manner
- Maintenance of healthy environment, such as good indoor air quality
- Durability and ease of maintenance
- Integration with the site and its neighborhood
The following resources are compiled from many websites and publications, especially the Sustainable Resources, the U.S. Green Building Council, California Green Building Design & Construction, and an article entitled "Green Building Resource Update" by Tony Novelli of Development Center for Appropriate Technology, published in Building Safety Journal, May-June 2004 issue.
