Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-Stress and Coping-The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.

Addressing Teen Mental Health Challenges: A Toolkit for Parents and Guardians of Teens -The Department of Public Health recognizes that parenting has its share of challenges, and we are so glad that you found your way to this information. Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health-The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH), the largest county mental health department in the country, directly operates more than 80 programs and contracts with more than 700 providers, including non-governmental agencies and individual practitioners who provide a spectrum of mental health services to people of all ages to support hope, wellness and recovery.

It is the voice and conscience of modern psychiatry. Its vision is a society that has available, accessible quality psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. 

Homeless Veteran’s Resources-Our Veterans return from service with wounds we cannot always see. VA is committed to providing our Veterans with the mental health services they deserve. Too often, the emotional scars of service can contribute to Veteran homelessness or place Veterans at risk of homelessness. VA offers many mental health services for Veterans to help them get back on their feet.

National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. NIMH is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the largest biomedical research agency in the world. NIH is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). 

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)-The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. Child Mind Institute-7 Myths About Child Mental Health-Debunking myths about child mental health is critical to getting more children the help and understanding they deserve. 

National Institute on Mental Health-Child and Adolescent Mental Health-Mental health is an important part of overall health for children as well as adults. For many adults who have mental disorders, symptoms were present—but often not recognized or addressed—in childhood and adolescence. For a young person with symptoms of a mental disorder, the earlier treatment is started, the more effective it can be. Early treatment can help prevent more severe, lasting problems as a child grows up. 

World Health Organization-Adolescent Mental Health-Adolescence (1019 years) is a unique and formative time. Multiple physical, emotional and social changes, including exposure to poverty, abuse, or violence, can make adolescents vulnerable to mental health problems.

The Trevor Project-The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.

Teen Line-Teen Line is a confidential hotline for teenagers which operates every evening from 6:00pm to 10:00pm PST. If you have a problem or just want to talk with another teen who understands, then this is the right place for you! Library Resources

Get Fit While You Sit is a series of exercise routines that will help you maintain flexibility, improve posture, and exercise your brain without breaking a sweat. This program is highly recommended for seniors (62 years & up) or for anyone experiencing mobility issues.

GetSetUP is a social learning platform for individuals 50+, taught by peers. The classes are live and consist of digital learning, physical health, mental health, social health, and vocational health. Patrons will receive a pass or code to be able to access all the classes they would like to participate in for a month at a time.

Local Resources

California Master Plan on Aging recognizes that California’s over-65 population is projected to grow to 8.6 million by 2030, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order calling for the creation of a Master Plan for Aging to be developed by October 1, 2020. The Master Plan will serve as a blueprint that can be used by state government, local communities, private organizations and philanthropy to build environments that promote an age friendly California.

Senior Care--Garfield Medical Center has a long history of excellent patient care. For over 80 years Garfield has provided patients with high-quality, reliable care. A full-service, acute-care facility, we pride ourselves on making our culturally-diverse patients feel at ease.

Langley Senior Center offers an array of Senior Services. Most activities are based out of the Langley Center, located at 400 West Emerson Avenue, Monterey Park CA 91754. Langley Center is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. with the exception of program activities and classes as designated.

Langley Center provides a variety of opportunities for seniors to participate in learning classes for personal growth and development. Special recreation events and informational programs are scheduled throughout the year. Activities at the Langley Center include: daily lunch program, fitness programs, free health screenings and case management services.

Los Angeles County Department of Aging partners with key stakeholders in the County, including community-based organizations, governmental agencies, and private entities.

State Resources:

California Department on Aging (CDA) administers programs that serve older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities throughout the State. These services are provided locally by the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA), Medi-Cal Community Based Adult Services (CBAS) centers, or other contracted agencies.

The Friendship Line CA  has been a vital lifeline for people aged 60 years and older and adults living with disabilities to connect with a caring, compassionate voice ready to listen and provide emotional support.
