Monterey Park Explorer Post 911
Monterey Park Fire Explorers drill every other Saturday at Fire Station 61. The purpose of the Monterey Park Fire Explorer Program is to expose co-ed high school students and young adults between the ages of 14-21 to a future career in fire services. It will provide an opportunity to meet local fire personnel, observe daily firefighting activities at the station, and learn about the
Explorer members will receive hours of training in skills, uniform etiquette, responsibility, and teamwork. In addition, explorers participate in community events to promote the Fire Department and its activities, meet community members, and act as a representative of the Monterey Park Fire Department. Explorers may participate in various Fire Department exercises, conduct community service activities, conduct Color Guard service at City Council meetings, and other tasks as may be required.
The Explorer Program is the career education division of the Boy Scouts of America. Explorers are given hands-on opportunities in their area of interest by professional firefighters by the City of Monterey Park Fire Department. The Exploring Division is a resource that supports both youth and adults in our program with leadership training and development.
This post has a maximum membership of 10 explorers. Applications will be filed in the order of receipt and future candidates will be placed on a waiting list.
Future candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Between the age of 14-20 (program ends at 21)
- No felony convictions or serious misdemeanor criminal convictions
- Good moral character
- A GPA of C or better
For those interested in becoming an explorer, an application form (PDF) is required to be completed and mailed to the Fire Department.
Once accepted to the Explorer Program, the candidate must incur a portion of the cost for a uniform. The department will provide a work uniform consisting of a uniform shirt, pants, and belt. The candidate must provide his / her own pair of uniform work boots. The department will also provide the candidate with personal safety equipment for training sessions.
